Sonnet 1

by: Devin PL Edwards

Two young leaves on different trees,
her, a birch, him grown from oak seed,
soon, fall coloured, though now still green,
strike each other by forceful breeze.
But strong currents bring him aside
and she, she floats along in creeks.
both leaves dream, both the other seeks
finding a waterfall, shes flies.
She looks for him; has he left, or does he search?
He is gone to all but her, and hears her cries.
Shedding ice and moss, he all odds, defies.
Despite the wind, and time, Oak leaf finds Birch.
Both, at the sunlit bottom of a hill,
come to rest, and rest still.
